I am experienced in working remotely, which became more prevalent during the pandemic, where counsellor and client often had to conduct sessions online. Today, more people are accustomed to having a counselling session via video call.
I currently offer remote sessions via Zoom to people for whom this is a feasible option to access counselling. Meeting in a virtual space can have certain advantages, for example not having to factor in time and costs for travelling to sessions. For some, it is a way of integrating self-care into a busy schedule, which they wouldn't be able to do otherwise. It can also be a way of engaging in support from the comfort of your own home, which can lessen anxiety for some who find leaving the house difficult.
I offer short-term as well as long-term counselling. Online sessions are conducted in the same way as face-to-face sessions: regular sessions take place at the same day and time every week for 50 minutes. Just like setting your own counselling goals, the ending is decided by you and it can be helpful to plan the ending as part of the therapeutic process.
Where to start?
I understand that you may be feeling apprehensive about starting counselling. I offer a free telephone/online video consultation before the first session to provide more details and answer any questions you may have.
The assessment during the first session is the same in online sessions as well as face-to-face sessions. We will complete an assessment where we explore aspects such lifestyle, emotional and physical well-being, previous experiences of counselling and specific issues that you would like to talk about. There is no expectation that you automatically to commit to counselling, and I treat the first session as a way of us to get to know each other and see if our expectations of working together are matched.
